Hanwei Renaissance-style stoques have their origins in early 17th-century Europe, where the use of the sword with this was considered an essential part of a gentleman’s education and was often used to resolve disagreements between knights. The blades generally originated in one of the blade manufacturing centers such as Toledo or Solingen, but many differences in the style and materials of the handle were caused by local manufacture of handles throughout Europe.
